If nothing else has worked, this condition can be resolved with a minor surgical procedure.
Ingrowing or painful nails have a number of causes; shape of the nail, ill fitting shoes or trauma are some of the reasons that the condition arises.
A brief assessment is performed and a local anaesthetic is used to extract the problem nail. A chemical is used which kills the nail cells from growing again. Post surgery, the toe must be kept clean and a dressing applied daily.
The procedure might also be available through the NHS, ask your Doctor if he will consider referring you. There will be a waiting list so you might prefer to seek private treatment when your preference of day and time will be more easily accommodated.
