Corns

This was painful and ulcerated. Client called me in an emergency. Seen today and had to get rid of the white skin .

The wound bled easily and was dressing used was impregnated with silver which will help reduce bleeding and has antibacterial qualities.

Really wish these plasters would not be sold as they can cause a lot of problems on elderly feet.

Orthotic Therapy

Orthotics are devices worn in your shoes. At Toe Business and Southsea Podiatry we can provide bespoke and off the self orthotics.

If you require bespoke orthotics then a prescription will be tailor made to your needs. A Bespoke pair of othortics are prescription orthotics, similar to glasses which have to be prescribed.

The main aim of orthotics is to redistribute pressure, thereby decreasing the load from painful or injured areas. They ensure that your foot posture is working to the very best of its ability and research has shown that by your lower limb functioning to its best anatomical ability, it reduces stress on the foot, lower limb, and other areas of the body.

Orthtoics can be extremely useful if you have poor foot posture, injury and or pain. Some of the following conditions that orthotics are commonly used for are:

  • Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain)
  • Arch pain
  • Flat feet
  • High arched feet
  • Bunions
  • Shin splints
  • Neuromas
  • Achilles Tendinitis
  • back pain
  • knee pain
  • and much more

Verrucae

There are many methods used to get rid of verruca

These range from waiting until the immune system picks it up to caustics, freezing and taping.
However, there is another way which directly stimulates the immune system to get rid of the virus ‘Verruca needling.’

Falknor`s Needling for Verrucae

Falknor`s needling procedure is an innovative and effective treatment for verrucae (warts), which are benign types of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) group. It is a form of soft tissue therapy which is intended to break down the verruca and create a controlled inflammatory response which, in turn, stimulates the body’s immune system to recognise the virus and destroy it. The treatment has been around for over 45 years (being first described in a medical journal in America in 1969) and is used routinely with great success by practitioners.

Needling is different from most other treatment modalities (such as caustics, which can entail dozens of applications to be effective) as it only requires one, or occasionally two, applications making this an ideal treatment for busy people.

Twenty-four hours after treatment you can shower as usual without the need to keep bulky dressings dry. In fact, no dressings are required at all after two days so that you can continue with daily activities as normal.

before…
…and after

How does this method of treatment work?

By puncturing the verruca with an empty sterile needle many times, the viral particles are directly exposed to the fatty tissue beneath the skin where the body is rich in immune regulators. Here, the immune system can recognise and destroy the virus. As this immune response is often systemic, treatment of only one Verruca is required even where there are many lesions as spontaneous remission occurs in all, or most, Verrucae at the same time.

The procedure is carried out painlessly under a local anaesthetic and only mild soreness the following day has been reported by a few patients, although the majority of patients feel no discomfort at all.

Eight months post procedure is when it can be said that the Verruca is gone for good as the virus can lay dormant in the body for this length of time.

Running Injuries

Injuries are often caused by other underlying problems.

Many of you may have taken up running recently or increased your running and could now be experiencing pain or injury.

As Podiatrists, we look at the whole of the lower limb so rather than just treating the painful area, we delve deeper to find the cause so that the issue has less chance to reoccur.

Why not book a biomechanics consultation? I will send you a form to complete which will allow me to have a clearer overview of the problem before the consultation. When you come in, I will have a better idea of the issue and I can concentrate on the key areas that are causing you concern.

Taping is another treatment we use. I can use it for heel pain and achilles tendon issues.
